GTB Monday 11 Jan 2010

Tired of the gym but hoping to shed those excess Christmas pounds? This week’s first guest Lorraine Ho from Bootcamp Ireland told GTB about getting in shape military-style with their ex-army trainers to motivate you and get you moving!

Bootcamp Ireland has a variety of membership options, from one-per-class vouchers to annual subscriptions. Activities are open to lads and lasses, and include social events like ski or surf trips.

*****
Speaking of skiing and surfing, Gerry Collins, owner of The Great Outdoors on Chatham St, advised us on our winterwear during this infamous cold snap. Layering is the key, but good footwear won’t steer you wrong on these icy paths. Check out a range of their products online, and if you need any advice or assistance, Gerry and his team will kit you out in their city-centre store.

And for the hardier among us, Gerry advises wearing full-body coverage when surfing the Irish waters. (Although, you’d have to be mad…).

And if the snow returns this week, The Great Outdoors has some lovely toboggans for making the most out of it and unleashing your inner child.

*****

Bad weather means more opportunities for hitting the cinema, yay! Ken Mooney from movie, music and games review site BurnAllZombies.com pointed us in the directions of some promising films for 2010.

Ken’s top tips include: Up in the Air, starring George Clooney, A Single Man directed by fashionista Tom Ford (and involving the folks behind Mad Men), and Shutter Island – another Martin Scorsese and Leonardo Di Caprio effort.

Ken also suggests keeping an eye out for the film adaptation of the hugely popular novel The Lovely Bones, starring our very own Oscar-nominee, Saoirse Ronan. GTB is already counting the days til Sex and the City 2 comes out. Bring it on!

First GTB Post for 2010!!!

Hey All,

Hope you enjoyed listening to today’s GirlsTalkBack on 103.2fm!! We were very excited to get back to work and do what we do best….fill all the listeners in on everything that is hot and happening around Dublin and the celeb world!!

On the showbiz front we discovered well known Irish Author Marian Keyes is sadly suffering from depression and has openly discussed this on her website with her fans stating ‘Regular readers know that I’ve been prone to depression on and off over the years but this is in a totally different league. This is much, much worse’.
We here at GTB think Marian is a very brave and courageous women to be so open about her condition and wish her all the best for 2010! If you would like to write a message of support follow the link below:

It was confirmed that Russell Brand and Katy Perry are to get married after Brand popped the question on a trip away to India on New Years! He confirmed by texting in to ‘The Sun’ newspaper saying ‘It’s true, Much Love’!!! Now rumours are flying that Katy is also pregnant……GTB thinks this couple will always be subjected to the rumour mill!!!

FYI …the wedding to watch out for in 2010- Irish rugby captain Brian O’Driscoll is to wed Irish actress and author Amy Huberman!! This will be taking place in Co. Leitrim at Lough Rynn Castle!! We can’t wait for the invite…it’s bound to arrive soon enough!!

GTB were BOPPING and BLINGING on this weeks show!!

First up on GirlsTalkBack we had up and coming Irish band ‘SOUNDPROOF’!! The band is made up of three brothers Ste, Neil and Chris and a best friend Rosie together writing creative melodies full of harmonies and catchy chorus! The guys come from the north of Dublin and describe themselves as a melodic rock band!! They have been together for over three and a half years now and although the music industry is a tough act to get into it would seem that these guys were born to do. They grew up surrounded by the industry and only recently found out that front man Danny from successful Irish band The Script is in fact their second cousin!!

They played in Crawdaddy nightclub last Saturday which was a huge success and have an upcoming gig in Eamon Doran’s this Saturday so the guys are really starting to make their mark. The gig this Saturday is free in so make sure to pop in and have a listen to the guys doing what they do best-performing live!!

Soundproof played ‘shoot me’ and ‘only by the night’ for us in studio and they were fantastic. They also left us a few copies of their EP so we will make sure to give a few away to the listeners on next weeks show. Make sure to tune in for that competition!!!
If you want to find out more about Soundproof just visit them on their blog.

GTB had the pleasure of chatting to Leah O'Reilly and Emily Mackeogh about their new business venture Crystals and Co on this weeks show. This is an online company which specialize in stunning crystal jewellery, bags, bracelets, rings and much more!. Girls, your prayers are now answered!

Crystal and Co source all their crystals from Paris to Austria to New York, tending to your every sparkle need. Better again, Crystals and Co will even come to your house to host a Crystal evening where you can invite all your friends around to check out all of their amazing stock.

They even throw in wine and cup cakes?! Heaven, prepare to be bedazzled!! Crystals and Co's pieces are like nothing you have ever seen before as they are key items which could illuminate any room. Prices start from approx €20 for rings and bracelets with bags being more expensive but still a hell of a lot cheaper and better quality than anything else similar out there in the Irish market.

The crystlas from Crystals and Co are perfect for any occasion, especially if you are looking something haute coture! Look no further. The items are so unique and exclusive that you’re almost guaranteed to never meet anyone sporting the same piece. You can even request your initials on the bags!! There have been a few famous faces already photographed around the Irish streets wearing these stunning jewels.

With Christmas coming up, these pieces are the perfect present for your loved ones. If you have boyfriends who are stuck with Christmas present ideas this year, then direct them towards the Crystals and Co’s Facebook page to see all the Crystals and Co pieces..

Alternatively you can contact Crystals and Co on 087-9559202 where payment can be taken over the phone or email info@crystalsandco.com. The Crystals and Co website will be launched in the coming week so GTB will update that link as it happens!! GTB are certainly investing in some bling bling this Xmas season and we know exactly where we will be going to get our sparkle on!!

Ending the show, we had our weekly fill of showbiz gossip where we were informed of how 50 Cent has requested a duet with Susan Boyle??? We can't say we saw that one coming! See you all next week!

Former Miss Argentina Dies after Bottom Op

This is a really sad story but shows the lengths that people go to in order to look a certain way. Former Miss Argentina, Solange Magnano who was only 38 died on Sunday after undergoing gluteoplasty - a procedure which normally involves putting implants in the buttocks to improve its shape. This turned out to be fatal as liquid injected into Magnano went straight to her lungs and brain.

Magnano who held the Miss Argentina title in 1994 leaves behing eight year old twins. According to a close friend of the model, she reportedly went ahead with this procedure as she believed that ' it was no big deal'.

The procedure itself was carried out in Argentina, where there has been a 60% increase in plastic surgery procedures in the past 5 years. This is a really sad story and highlights the dangers of undergoing inexpensive cosmetic surgery.

Lara boutique is more than just a shop as staff take time to get to know customers and learn about where they are going for that special occasion!! Celeb pals Katie Price and Michelle Heaton are also major fans of the Lara boutique. Katie was even spotted entering the Dame Lane boutique just before she hit the jungle!! If it's good enough for the celebs, its good enough for GTB.
